When you look back on your life, do you wish you would have been a little braver, more committed, and less lethargic in order to promote a healthier lifestyle? Do you wish you would have been more courageous and accepted the fitness lifestyle?
Often times we know what it is we have to do, but we still don’t do it. Why? Because we are risk averse and until we have a health scare or near death experience, our ambition and inspiration tends to be low.
In other words, we find it much easier to settle with the status quo, stay in our comfort zones and indulge our bodies with junk food rather than make a change, take a stand, dedicate and engage in what we call a “healthier lifestyle.”
When weighing whether to take an action that could ultimately leave us feeling happier, healthier, confident and reduce chronic diseases; the easy answer tends to be towards being lazy, lack of motivation, or making excuses.
Put yourself in this scenario…
Imagine: you wake up in the morning, no aching bones, no tiredness and that throbbing energy…with that tired groggy feeling evaporated; you get out of bed and start your day. You make a healthy nutritional breakfast and you’re off to work.
Throughout the day, you snack on your healthy almonds and nuts with a side of banana and yogurt. As lunch approaches, you’re not like everyone else who rushes out to get that greasy fast food, instead you have your protein meats with a side of vegetables all sorted and ready to enjoy..and to top it off, the yogurt and protein bar as the cherry on top.
You finish your workday and with a snack in hand, you’re off to the gym. As you dedicate all your strength, power and energy to that one hour, you motivate yourself to be the best of the best and give it all you got, every time! As you finish that gruesome workout, you feel a sense of accomplishment, a sense of purpose, a sense that this is exactly where you want to be and strive toward your ultimate health goal!
Does that sound like you? Are you willing to put in the work?
Take the risk!
Give up your excuses!
Accept Fitness!
The benefits absolutely outweigh the drawbacks.
I believe first and foremost that accepting fitness is a mindset an individual can adopt by making a simple choice. Accepting, in the dictionary means, to undertake the responsibility, duty, honors of…in this case Fitness. To submerse yourself into a state of fitness where, you are growing in all aspects of your life.
It is making that decision that YOU will accept the responsibility of becoming fit in your life and not let anything stand in your way. When one decides to stop making excuses, they start creating solutions.
Not everyone is at the same level, and you may feel like you’re not even close, and that’s ok. Sometimes we feel like we don’t have the same willpower or the same strength that some people have…it’s all good.
We have all been in the same place and there’s nothing wrong with that. By continually exposing yourself to positive, motivational and inspirational material, you can start to take on the traits of ambitious people by reversing your mindset on life, health and fitness.
So how do we overcome our tendency of being lazy and identify which chances are worth taking? Start by asking yourself these three questions:
– What would happen to my life if I accepted fitness, wholeheartedly?
– How will inaction cost me one year from now if I do nothing?
– Is my fear of failure causing me to over-estimate the size of risk, under-estimate myself, and holding me back from taking risks that would benefit me?
Whatever answers jump into your mind, take notice! They are directing you to a brighter future that you can only create when you commit to taking bolder, more decisive and healthier actions. Will there be risks involved? Of course! But remember that you are wired to both overestimate the size of them and to underestimate your ability to handle them.
The truth is, as O.E. Wilson wrote, “you are capable of more than you know. Choose a goal that seems right for you and strive to be the best, however hard the path. Aim high. Behave honorably. Prepare to be alone at times, and to endure failure. Persist! The world needs all you can give.”
The fear of regret outweighs the fear of failure—if you can risk and overcome the fear of failure, you’ll see that that people who are happy, confident and healthy are those who do something about their lives rather than lie sleepless at night, regretting not taking advantages of opportunities when they arose.
Accept Fitness. You’ll become better for it.
Do you take risks?
Are you the kind of person who takes chances in life, health and business, or do you prefer to make things as safe and stable as possible at all times? I’d be interested to hear what (if any…) risks this action-taking community has taken so please comment and let me know.
If you don’t take risks, why not? Perhaps you should give it a try and comment on what happens.
